Tudor “Monte Carlo” Chronograph ref 7159 circa 1972
Vintage Tudor manual wind “Monte Carlo” chronograph ref # 7159 serial # 779,xxx circa 1972. Featuring a thick, 40mm stainless steel case with screw down pushers and crowns, steel tachometer bezel, and great condition original gray dial with contrasting black zones and orange details. Powered by manual wind Valjoux caliber 234 movement with registers for hour and minutes and date at 6 o’clock. This example early Tudor chronograph features an unpolished case, a rare, matte finish steel bezel, and an extremely nice condition original dial with mostly intact original luminous, and without the deterioration of paint commonly seen in these early models. With original Hecho en Mexico contract Jubilee bracelet with deployment clasp. Recently fully serviced and left unpolished as acquired. Original crystal has been polished and shows light scratches. Black lacquer on bezel appears to have been restored at some time. Guaranteed genuine with our 1 year warrantee of accurate time keeping and operation.
Note: it is common for the early Tudor chronograph dials to show a dense “snowflake” pattern on the surface of the dial, from aging of the painted dial surface. The current example is remarkable in that it has a particularly clean, and unblemished original surface. The case appears never to have been polished. The matte finish bezel is in great shape, and the screw down chronograph pushers are original.
A very scare and desirable vintage model. Would also wear well on a sport black strap.
