Rolex Submariner ref# 168000 Transitional “Mr. Goodbar” circa 1987

SOLD

You know we love great patina lume on a vintage sport Rolex, and we really go nuts over tropical and distressed dials. Some of you were sad that our recent Earth Day edition super distressed 16800 that we named “Middle Earth” sold so quickly. Well today we have a remarkable 168000 R2 serial # circa 1987 with distinctly turned chocolate tropical dial.  We all love chocolate, but this one even has small bumps sparsely distributed on the dial, prompting us to aptly name this model our “Mr. Goodbar” edition. (See photos) The model features a very beefy lug case, richly patina’d luminous indexes and hands, and a fabulous very faded grayish blue period insert.

The watch has been fully serviced and pressure tested, and left unpolished as found, and is furthermore complemented by a great looking heavy distressed leather strap with beveled sides which perfectly complements and sets off the rich Mr. Goodbar dial!

If you’re looking for a distinctive vintage sub, and after all, who isn’t, this is one you must see in person to fully appreciate. Currently available in our shop. Schedule a Saturday appointment now, as we don’t expect this to stick around long!

As you may already know, the 168000 (not 16800) model is a 1 year only production model from 1986 and 1987 which introduced the higher grade 904 stainless steel case alloy, replacing the prior 316 grade alloy. The case is the same as the soon to be introduced 16610, but with the 168000 designation, and still utilizing the 3035 movement of the 16800.
