Rolex GMT ref 16750 Transitional Model Matte Dial circa 1984

A transitional model matte dial Rolex 16750 GMT with great eye appeal. Featuring a beautiful original matte black dial with richly patina’d wheat color luminous tritium indexes and matching untouched tritium hour, minute, and 24 hour hands. (Note the sweep seconds hand has been relumed.) With acrylic cyclops crystal, and richly saturated red and blue “Pepsi” bezel. With a previously polished, but beefy lug case, and a brushed finish heavy Oyster 78360 bracelet with #580 end pieces and deployment clasp with H date code.

The 16750 model features a 3075 caliber quick set date movement replacing the earlier non quick set date 1500 series movement found in the reference 1675. The 16750 predates the introduction of the sapphire crystal so called “GMT 1” model ref# 16700

The earliest of these “transitional” models continued the use of the vintage style matte black dial, while later models were fitted with the more modern gloss dial with metal luminous surrounds. The current example is in excellent mechanical and features the aged creamy patina lumes that we all love. A fine piece for everyday wear or for a collector. This watch has resided in a fine collection for a number of years and has just now come back into the market.
