Omega Speedmaster Premoon ref 145.022 calibre 861 Transitional circa 1969 “Aero-Club Caracas”

Transitional model Omega Speedmaster pre Man on the Moon model, ref 145.022-69. Movement serial # of 30.5 million dates this example to 1969. This is the transitional model powered by caliber 861 manual wind movement as opposed to the now discontinued caliber 321, with original matte black stepped dial with printed Omega logo, with patina’d luminous indexes, and hands. The 42mm stainless steel case is still strong and sharp, featuring the trademark twisted lugs. The black tachymeter bezel is in exceptional condition without nicks or scrapes. Complete with original Omega bracelet with deployment clasp and #393 end pieces.

This model features the last version caseback with the Hippocampus seamonster, the word “Speedmaster” and the Omega logo. The Man on the Moon caseback was introduced later the same year.

Another unique characteristic of this example is it’s provenance. The caseback is engraved “Aero-Club Caracas, dated 1974, with what appear to be 2 sets of initials. The Aero-Club Caracas at the time was a club for wealthy Venezuelans who owned or who had access to private aircraft. The Aero-Club Caracas was located at Venezuela’s 2nd major airport, La Carlota, and was the first private aviator’s flight school at the time in Venezuela. We don’t know any more specifics, but presumably this was some time of award or presentation on behalf of the Aero-Club in 1974.

For its rarity, fine condition, and interesting South American aviation provenance, a most desirable example. Recently fully serviced and offered with our 1 year warranty of accurate time keeping and operation.
