Illinois Bunn Special 23 Jewel 60 Hour Railroad Watch circa 1928

An especially fine condition and attractive vintage Illinois 60 hour Bunn Special railroad grade pocket watch circa 1928. Featuring a 16 size 10K yellow gold filled open face Keystone signed J Boss Model 28 Bunn Special case. The case is further distinguished by a finely knurled bezel, original onion crown, and beautiful decorative art deco inspired pendant and bow.

Featuring a beautiful  “double sunk” white enamel dial with large black enamel arabic numbers and blued steel “Gothic” style hands. The minute track is set off with black enamel dots for each minute and bright red enamel dots for each 5 minute location. The enamel dial is in overall excellent condition with very subtle shallow hairlines, and a small chip by the center post.

An especially fine example with stunning white enamel dial and with case back free of any personalized engraving. Powered by 23 jewel manual wind lever set 60 hour “Bunn Special” movement. In excellent operating condition and offered with our 1 year warranty of accurate time keeping and operation.

NOTES: 60 hour refers to the large mainspring barrel that allows the watch to run for 60 hours when fully wound. In wristwatch terminology, this would be called the “power reserve.” Like all railroad watches, this watch is stem wind, but lever set, which means that the bezel must be unscrewed, the lever pulled out to set the time, and the bezel screwed back on. This was an important safety feature to ensure that time was not inadvertently change risking a collision between trains running on the same tracks. The 60 hour Bunn Special is a classic among vintage American railroad watches, and the current example is quite a fine example.
