Hamilton 18K WG 12-S Open Face Pocketwatch circa 1935 Box Papers Chain Knife

The richly engraved 45mm case features an original matte silver dial with applied 18K yellow gold Breguet-style numerals, ornate Gothic hands, and a raised “silvered pearl” minute track. The decorative hinged bow and finely engraved details throughout lend the watch an extraordinary presence and character.

Accompanying the watch is its original blue textured Hamilton presentation box, preserved in remarkably fine condition, along with the original parchment-style warranty papers bearing the matching serial number and movement grade. The case back is engraved “JP,” while the inner cover carries the touching inscription:

“To Joseph, with all my love, Helen, January 25th, 1935.”

Also included is the matching 10K white gold Art Deco link chain and coordinating 14K white gold pen knife, likewise engraved “JP,” indicitive of this ensemble purchased as a complete luxury presentation set.

Powering the watch is Hamilton’s celebrated 21-jewel Grade 400 movement with damaskeened plates and swan-neck hairspring regulator. The movement has been inspected and is running well.

Most gold pocket watches of the era were produced in 14K gold, making this 18K example especially notable—and a wonderful reflection of the original owner’s taste and means during the depths of the Depression era.
