Great condition vintage B. W. Raymond Railroad approved wristwatch ref# 2285 circa 1950’s. Featuring a 35.5 X 41.5mm case with acrylic crystal, screw down case back, and great condition original matte white dial. This utilitarian designed model powered by chronometer rated caliber 730A manual wind movement was the first American manufactured mechanical wristwatch to be approved for service on America’s railroads. The model was named for Benjamin Wright Raymond the founder of Elgin National Watch Company in Elgin, Illinois in 1866.

Prior to the introduction of this model, only pocket watches were eligible for use by railroad employees. This wistwatch had to meet demanding standards of accuracy, reliabilty and readability and safety were approved for use on the railroads. These standards included accuracy and reliability as well as ease of reading the hours, minutes, and seconds, hence the white dial, bold numerals, oversized hands, prominent subseconds bit, as well as the recessed, protected crown..
