Fabulous looking vintage Rolex Submariner ref# 16800 transitional model 8.2 million serial # circa 1983. Great looking vintage model with remarkably richly patina’d luminous indexes and hands, aged printing of the dial, and beautifully aged elapsed time bezel “pearl.”
It is our considered opinion that the dial was exposed to moisture or humidity, which resulted in a “gilt” looking appearance to the dial surface, the print, and the luminous indexes and hands. The surface of the dial has turned matte, with some minor surface irregularities, consistent with exposure to moisture and sunlight, to the point that the printing actually appears to be “gilt.” An amazing looking example, with all characteristics of the dial, hands, and luminous plots appearing uniformly distressed and aged. Just fully serviced and H20 tested, and left unpolished as acquired. Guaranteed genuine and offered with our 1 year warranty of accurate time keeping and operation.
This is the popular transitional model, an early sapphire crystal ref 16800, which follows the plastic crystal model 1680, and precedes the 16610 with modern style glossy dial. This model features a sapphire crystal, a caliber 3035 movement with quick set date, and with Rolex heavy Oyster ref 93150 bracelet 593 end pieces and with flip lock clasp. This model offers the convenience and security of a more water resistant design, but retaining the popular vintage character of the early plastic crystal matte dial models. An amazing example with rich and remarkable character. NOTE: on request, the cyclops crystal can be changed to a non cyclops for a clean, even more vintage look!
