We are not sure if there is an official name for this model, but we have heard it referred to as the “gambler’s” watch. Presumably that name reflects the dress to impress style to the case and dial that might be found on the wrist of a nattily dressed poker player or gangster wanna be of the era.
Featuring a distinctive 33 x 46mm case with prominent hooded lugs with overlapping rectangular and triangular shaped bars. With an elaborate 2 tone dial with 2 different textures, 2 sets of hour markers, and with a contrasting inner raised pearl minute track. The dial features a black vertical striped engine turned center with 12/3/9 applied hour indexes, surrounded by champagne color textured waffle pattern with applied tapered indexes, and completed with tapered gilt dauphine hands. The watch is powered by a 17 jewel manual wind caliber 480 movement with large sub seconds bit.
In excellent operating condition, just serviced by one of our veteran watchmakers, and offered with our 1 year warranty of accurate time keeping and operation. A scarce and exceptionally beautiful design vintage dress model.
As for cosmetic condition, the case shows modest wear, but is not overly worn or polished. The dial is original and shows evidence of aging with some light spotting and small irregularities on the dial surface. Overall, we’d rate the dial at 80%, but due to its’ rarity and the uniqueness of the dial configuration, we will subjectively rate this watch as a 9.5 in terms of its appeal and desirability.
In our opinion, this is one of the most distinctive dress models produced in this era of design with respect to both the case design and the elaborate dial. We have seen this case design with simpler dials that are not nearly as compelling as this version, which we consider the best case and dial configuration we have ever seen on a Lecoultre dress watch of the era.
