Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date ref 15200 U6 serial# circa 1997. Featuring a 34mm diameter case with smooth bezel, sapphire crystal, and original silver satin dial which has naturally aged a taupe/tan color with the center of the dial left silver. The dial ressembles the “vignette” dials produced with a darker center and a lighter outer perimeter. However, this dial, for whatever reason, has naturally aged to create this interesting and pleasing effect! The dial surface is perfectly smooth with no spotting or uneveness other than the obvious, and the lume plots are completely intact and have aged to a mature ivory color.
We do not typically see dials turned tropical so “young” in their lifetime, and we don’t exactly know the chemistry as to why some dials patina, while others don’t. But, clearly this tropical dial lends a unique and appealing character to this example.
