Special to you for the Halloween and fall foliage season is an amazing example ref 9111/01 Tudor Oyster Date Ranger II with an amazing condition “Pumpkin” dial. This is an extremely rare model produced in limited quantities in the 1970’s in 2 variations, one with black dial, and the other, as the current example, with the more desirable dark blue dial. This model was the Tudor counterpart to the Rolex orange hand Explorer II of the era.
Featuring a 38mm diameter case with popular integral bracelet design with high sloped bezel with deeply engraved channels, a screw down Rolex signed Oyster crown, flat acrylic crystal, recessed 2 piece dark blue dial with naturally aged luminous 12/6/9, and with a hand set unique to this model. As we hope is evident from our photos is the rich orange “pumpkin” color of the luminous plots and dials which make this watch a standout example of this rarely seen model.
The bracelet reference is #7586, and is in excellent condition with little stretch. The bracelet will comfortably fit a 7 ½ inch wrist. The case serial # of 838,xxx corresponds to a production year of 1975.
We have seen this basic case design in several variations including a simple silver dial, as well as with a blue dial, and with a blue dial with rotating elapsed time bezel. We have seen later production examples in a similar case, but with a quartz movement. But this Ranger II model, with its special dial and hand set, with remarkable patina’d lume is clearly the prize of any of these other variations.
