Background
The Daytona began production in 1963 as a manual wind model and has been the iconic Rolex sport model ever since. The ref# 16520, or the “Zenith” Daytona, so named for its use of the famous Zenith El Primero caliber, was introduced in 1988 and features a larger diameter 39mm case with crown guards and sapphire crystal, and was the first Daytona powered by an automatic movement. The 16520 was in production until 2000, and was replaced by the ref 116520 which utilized a newly developed Rolex in house automatic movement. The current example tritium lume dial makes it a desirable neo vintage example of the increasingly popular Zenith Daytona.
