A rare and exceptional example vintage Rolex Submariner pointy crown guard case, gorgeous tropical “Chocolate” gilt chapter ring dial with richly patina’d “puffy” lumes, distinct “exclamation point,” correct silver radium hands, silver meters first 200m=660ft depth rating, serial # 765,xxx with case back date of 1st quarter 1962 (1/62). With gorgeous ghost elapsed time bezel insert, super dome crystal, and early twin lock crown. Dial signed SWISS. Powered by self winding caliber 1530 (non butterfly) movement with sweep seconds. Offered on period correct Rolex USA oval link Jubilee bracelet with period deployment clasp with “frog foot” deeply embossed logo that we believe is original to the watch. Light personalized engraving on case back.
This is a very rare and exceptional condition example. The dial shows a rich chocolate mahogany tropical glow, all lume is original and intact, including the prominent “exclamation point.” The dial surface shows an even lizard skin pattern without any breaks or flaking. Possibly never polished case, lugs show some wear, as expected, but are beefy, and there is no corrosion between the lugs or the edges of the case back. Keeping time and regulated, but a full service has not been done. A very rare and desirable example.
Note: the dial appearance and rich chocolate mahogany color is much more compelling in person than appears in the photos. In person the dial is quite amazing!
