Vintage Rolex Submariner ref 5513, case serial # 3.2 million circa 1973. Very pleasing example with fine condition original matte black “Sans Serif” dial with beautiful ivory patina’d luminous indexes and matching hands. With acrylic crystal and very ‘ghostly’ bi-directional elapsed time bezel. Much of the printing of the bezel has faded to the point of no longer being readable. The #10 elapsed time indication is still legibile, while the aged pearl is intact.
This watch features a 40mm stainless steel case, and a more recent heavy Oyster 93150 bracelet in fair condition. Powered by caliber 1520 self winding movement with sweep seconds. Recently fully serviced and offered with our 1 year warranty of accurate time keeping and operation.
Sans Serif refers to the 1970’s era dials lacking ornamental (serif) details to the 3/6/9 luminous markers, and the hour indexes along the perimeter of the dial. The luminous dots are also larger than the earlier Submariner models, but are technically not considered “Maxi” dials. The serif dial is correct for the 3.2 million production date of this watch, and is quite lovely and without any scratches, oil spots, hand drag, or other detractions.
The so called “ghost bezel” refers to the very popular fading of the anodized aluminum bezel which gives a great vintage character to these vintage models. The current bezel is one of the most “ghostly” we have ever had!
