A fine condition and early Rolex 18K YG Submariner ref# 16808 transitional model circa 1981. Featuring a beefy lug, previously polished case with beautiful condition original black nipple dial, nicely patina’d tritium lume indexes and hands, and with very pleasing now matte black elasped time insert with nicely aged original pearl.

This is one of the earliest of the 5 digit reference # Submariners distinguished from the prior generation 1680, by a sapphire crystal, unidirectional elapsed time bezel, and the caliber 3035 movement with quick set date feature.

Fitted with original 18K YG heavy Oyster bracelet with pin style links from the era and flip lock deployment clasp. Bracelet is very tight and not stretched. The bracelet consists of 10 links and will fit a 7″ man’s wrist.

While the cobalt blue dial Submariner is popular as a contemporary sport model, the vintage black dial model, especially with first generation nipple dial and with warm patina as this example, is a popular and desirable version in the neovintage world.
