Very scarce transitional model ref# 168000 Rolex Submariner R5 serial # circa 1987 unpolished, and all original, complete with original box, papers, sticker. and numbered hang tag!  Featuring a sapphire crystal, quick set caliber 3035 movement, unidirectional elapsed time bezel, and first generation black T<25 dial with white gold luminous surrounds with tritium luminous indexes and hands. The surface of this original dial has transformed to a matte, almost granite like brown tone textured surface. The dial is truly one of the most intriguing and beautiful Submariner dials we have seen in a very long time. The stainless steel case has been left in the original unpolished condition as found, with sharp edges and very strong beveled lugs. With original bezel insert and richly patina’d pearl. In excellent mechanical condition and offered with our 1 year warrante of accurate time keeping and operation.

Besides the wonderful dial and crisp case, what makes this particular example so spectacular is the inclusion of every scrap of the original accompanied material. Not only the box and papers, in beautiful condition, but also two original hang tags, one even bearing the serial number, a sticker that shows the reference number in a different way then we usually see it, “16800A”. It also includes the extended warranty card from Mayors Jewelers where it was purchased on December 2nd, 1988.

The 168000 model is a 1 year only production model from 1986-1987 introducing the higher grade 904 stainless steel alloy, replacing the prior 316 grade alloy. The case is the same as the soon to be introduced 16610, but with the 168000 designation, and still utilizing the 3035 movement of the 16800.
