Rolex Pre Daytona ref 6238 Cosmograph serial# 116,xxx circa 1964. Featuring a 36mm diameter Oyster case with round pushers, screw down case back and screw down crown and with original dial, hands, and lume plots. Featuring an off white original dial that has aged and developed a rich vintage character. The dial features raised triangular indexes, aged patina’d lume plots, tapered dauphine original lume hands. With outer black printed tachometer scale and blue printed telemeter scale.

Powered by calibre 72B manual wind movement with registers for 30 minutes, 12 hours, and constant seconds. The dial is signed Rolex Oyster Chronograph SWISS. Fitted with a later excellent condition 19mm 78350 heavy Oyster bracelet with 557 end pieces and K3 date code.

The 6238 models are far rarer than any of the more well known and recognized “Daytona” models. The Daytona models are most readily distinguished by the tachometer scale being engraved on the bezel, whereas the 6238 features a smooth bezel with the tachometer scale printed on the dial perimeter. We  think 6238’s such as this example represent great value compared to the very high premium prices of the Daytona models, and most certainly the very high prices now being achieved by the Zenith and cerachrome bezel Daytona models.
