Rolex Sea-Dweller 4000 ref 11660. This extremely rare and desirable, now discontinued Sea-Dweller, comes to us fully sticker’d and appearing to be completely unworn. Affectionately called the SD4K, for its 4000 foot depth rating, the 116600 was introduced in 2014 after 6 years of Rolex having no Sea-Dweller in their catalog. Rewind to 2008, Rolex has stopped making the Sea-Dweller and introduced the much larger, 44mm Deep Sea in its place. All of this makes what happend at last years Basel World all the more surprising. After only 3 years of production, Rolex shelves the Sea-Dweller as we know it, and brings in the 126600. A 43mm Sea-Dweller with a touch of red text, and for the first time ever, a magnifier over the date, markedly shifting the DNA of the model. Since this change, the market for the last true Sea-Dweller has exploded. The last model without the magnifier, the classic 40mm stainless steel case, the updated ceramic bezel, and only a 3 year production run. The SD4K is a Rolex collectors dream.
Further details include the gas escape valve on the 9 o’clock side of the case, arguably the most recognizable sign of the model, a glossy black dial with Chromalight hour markers and hands, and a heavy Oyster bracelet with brushed finish. The watch comes complete with its original box and papers, as well as extra links and hangtags. As full a set as one could get. Having been bought only last year, there is still nearly 4 years left of the Rolex factory warranty.
The SD4K is beautiful, rugged, and 100% classic Rolex. It sits on the wrist wonderfully as it strolls down the road to become a modern classic.
