A particularly fine example Rolex “Pre Daytona” Cosmograph s ref 6238 circa 1964. This is an especially lovely example of the precursor to the iconic Daytona models. Not as well known as any of the so called Daytona models, but far rarer, and in this condition, a standout timepiece on any wrist.
The most notable differences between the 6238 model and the Daytona models are #1 the all silver dial, and #2 the tachometer bezel printed on the outer perimeter of the dial rather than on the outer bezel. Otherwise, the same size and operating features, powered by the same Valjoux 72B movement of the next generation Daytona, but a much less familiar, and as we can’t say enough times, unexpectedly stunning on the wrist.
Featuring a 36mm diameter Oyster case with round pushers, screw down case back and crown and with original stunning 2 tone silver satin dial. The dial is bright and lively and without stains, aging, scratches, abrasions from hand drag, and the recessed registers retain their sharp concentric lines and have no degradation at the edges of the registers. The subtle luminous dots have aged a warm straw color, and are intact save for minor imperfect lume on selected plots. The hands are bright and unscratched, not bent and without corrosion. The case back bears the matching 6238 ref # and the case ref and serial # stamping between the lugs are sharp and clean.
Powered by calibre 72B manual wind movement with registers for 30 minutes, 12 hours, and constant seconds.. Fitted with a later excellent condition with no stretch 19mm 78350 heavy Oyster bracelet with 557 end pieces.
