We are delighted to be able to offer another example of the ultra popular, niche market Rolex ref 1530 Oyster Perpetual Date complete with box and papers. The 1530 is the rare self winding model fitted to the Oyster Quartz style case, and easily mistaken as an Oyster Quartz, but with a unique reference number, a self winding caliber 1570 movement, and the dial signed Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date. And this example is complete with original inner and outer Rolex box, perforated serial # Rolex warranty papers (undated), calendar, Datejust booklet, and with inner and outer period correct box all as shown (inner cuff missing).
Featuring a 36mm diameter case with smooth bezel, sapphire crystal, and original silver dial that has turned to a warmly patina’d straw color. The dial features applied silver indexes and silver baton hands, some loss to some of the patina’d original tritium lume dial plots but intact tritium lume hands that are neither bent, scratched, or otherwise damaged. The warmly patina’d dial contrasts nicely with the matte silver inner sloped minutes track. The case serial # 4.0 million dates the production of this model to 1975, while the date of import by Rolex USA into the U.S. is 3/21/1977.
With original tight Rolex stainless steel integral flat link ref 96660 Oyster quartz style bracelet with deployment clasp. A very fine condition example possibly unpolished, with tight original bracelet and sharp edges.
The Oyster Quartz movement was introduced by Rolex during the “quartz revolution” of the late 1970’s to compete with the burgeoning Japanese market in quartz movements. Rolex produced their own high quality movement, and outfitted the watch in a much more modernist design and more geometric formed Oyster case. The OysterQuartz was produced in the Datejust version in steel and steel and gold combo, and in white gold or yellow gold in the DayDate version.
The Oyster Perpetual Date version represented here, utilized the Oyster Quartz case, with ref 1530, not 17000 like the quartz version, and fitted it with the caliber 1570 self winding movement. Oddly, the dial on the steel model reads Oyster Perpetual Date, not Datejust while the 2 tone ref #1630 version of this model bears the “Datejust” name. With it’s larger and more geometric case design, and self winding movement, the 1530 is a subtle and nuanced variation known mostly to vintage Rolex afficionados.
In excellent operating condition, of course guaranteed genuine, and offered with our 1 year warranty of accurate time keeping and operation.
