A scarce and sought after niche model Oyster Perpetual Date ref 1530. This generally unfamiliar model features the Oyster quartz style case and integral angular design Oyster bracelet, but is fitted with a self winding calibre 1570 movement. Produced as a one year only model circa 1976, with case serial # 4.1 million and featuring a 36mm diameter case with smooth bezel, sapphire crystal, and original matte silver dial with applied silver indexes and silver baton hands, and with inner sloped minutes track bezel.
The current example was definitely a daily wearer and shows its age. Most notably, the minute track printing on the inner sloped bezel has faded considerably. Dare we refer to it as a “ghost” bezel? On the other hand, the original dial is very clean without fading, scratches, or water damage. The reference 96660 bracelet shows a fair amount of wear, but retains it’s angular edges, and is not overly loose. The bracelet will comfortably fit up to a 7 1/4″ wrist. The case back is clean, with no personalized engraving, and case back threads are sharp and intact. The watch has just been fully serviced, is in excellent operating condition and is offered with our 1 year warranty of accurate timekeeping and operation.
A peculiarity about the 1530 model beyond its scarcity, is that while fitted to a 36mm “Datejust” case, the dial reads Oyster Perpetual Date, not Datejust. Interestingly, the 2 tone version of this model, the ref 1630 bears the “Datejust” name. With the larger and more geometric case design, and self winding movement, the 1530 is a very popular niche variation.
