A scarce, beautifully preserved and little worn 1st generation Rolex GMT 1 ref 16700, serial # E8 circa 1991 complete with inner and outer box and papers.
The current example features a 40mm diameter stainless steel case, bi-directional 24 hour red and blue “Pepsi” bezel bezel glossy black dial with tritium indexes and hands, and with sapphire crystal. Powered by caliber 3175 self winding movement with sweep seconds and date and 24 hour arrow hand. On Rolex stainless steel heavy Oyster link bracelet with flip lock deployment clasp.
This is a fairly small production model, first introduced in 1989, and essentially the 16750 quickset acrylic crystal model, rebadged as the 16700 with the addition of the sapphire crystal and a change from the 3075 to the 3175 movement. Though in production from 1989 until 1999, this model was less favored than the GMT 11 ref 16710 model with the independently set hour hand, and had a much smaller production than the GMT 11. Consequently, it is a much harder watch to find, particularly in pristine condition complete with box and papers as the current example.
Please review photos to see original outer box complete with 16700 sticker, serial #, as well as blank original papers. Light scratches from wear, but totally unpolished case and tight flip lock bracelet 78790 bracelet with 501B end pieces. With the increasing popularity of the first generation tritium dial Rolex sport models, we see this as a rare opportunity with the potential for future appreciation.
