A remarkable condition example of popular and now discontinued Rolex GMT Master 1 ref# 16700. Featuring a 40mm diameter stainless steel case with bi-directional 24 hour red and blue nicely faded bezel insert, sapphire crystal, and stunning glossy black original dial with richly patina’d tritium indexes and matching hands. With original Rolex stainless steel 93150 Oyster bracelet with flip lock clasp with 501B end pieces and corresponding P10 date code for 1991.
Featuring a very beefy case, appears to have had very little use, though it may have been lightly polished some time in its history. With partial original green caseback sticker. An exceptionally beautiful and well preserved example, with especially pleasing patina’d lumes. Includes original Rolex outer box with 16700 sticker intact.
The 16700 is fairly small production model, first introduced in 1988, and essentially the 16750 quickset acrylic crystal model, rebadged as the 16700 with the addition of the sapphire crystal and a change from the 3075 to the 3175 movement. Though in production from 1988 until 1999, this model was less favored than the GMT Master II ref 16710 that was introduced at the same time, because of its independently set hour hand. The 16700 had a much smaller production than the 16710 and consequently is a much harder watch to find.
