Offering a fine condition example Rolex SS Explorer 1 ref# 1016 serial number 1.7 million circa 1967. Featuring a 36mm diameter Oyster case with smooth bezel and acrylic dome crystal and with a very pleasing original matte black Mark 1 dial with gently aged tritium lume plots and color matched hands. The hands have been professionally restored with non UV glow tritium lume to match the color of the dial plots.
The Mark 1 dial is also referred to as the “Frog’s feet” dial due to the irregular shape of the Rolex crown logo. With corresponding case back date code of IV/67.
Powered by self winding calibre 1570 movement with sweep seconds. In excellent mechanical condition, just back from service by one of our veteran watchmakers, and offered with our 1 year warranty of accurate time keeping and operation.
A used, but not abused model, showing expected wear for a 50+ year old watch, and left unpolished during our service. One of the most popular and most elusive of the vintage Rolex sport models of the 1960’s and 1970’s. We receive many requests for 1016’s, and encounter them much less frequently than for the other 4 digit reference # sport models such as the ref 5513 no date Submariner and 1675 GMT.
The current example is a very pleasing example with the perfect vintage look. The matte dial surface is clean and without damage, hand drag, or scratches. The lume plots are all original and unmolested. In all respects an extremely pleasing example vintage Explorer 1 model. Fitted with one of our distressed leather straps for a vintage look.
Your purchase includes our signature fine leather watch pouch, ideal for travel and storage, a $65.00 value.
