Offering a vintage original owner Rolex 1016 that has been fully serviced and updated during a recent Rolex service.. This is a circa 1960 era Rolex that was sent by its original owner to Rolex in 2020 for a complete service. As documented in the Rolex paperwork, and as a condition of service, the dial and hands were replaced. The replacement dial is signed T<25 but both the hands and dial are the brighter and longer glowing luminova luminous material.
Featuring a 36mm diameter Oyster case with smooth bezel and acrylic dome crystal. Powered by caliber 1570 chronometer rated movement that has been fully serviced by Rolex. The watch is fitted with a 1980 date code heavy Oyster 93150 with 580 end pieces bracelet that was purchased by the owner shortly before the Rolex authorized service.
The watch may have been unworn since the time of service. Of course the case and bracelet were polished as part of service but the watch retains substantial lugs, and as can be seen in the photos, there is ample metal above the spring bar holes. The watch includes the shipping box from Rolex service, the paper work from the Rolex service showing a full service, replacement of the hands and dial and tube and crown, the green suede service pouch and the Rolex service card. As can be seen in the photo, the cost of the service in 2020 was approximately $1800, and did not include the separate purchase of the 93150 Submariner bracelet.
The 1016 is one of the most popular and most elusive of the vintage Rolex sport models of the 1960’s and 1970’s. We receive many requests for 1016’s, and encounter them much less frequently than for the other 4 digit reference # sport models such as the ref 5513 no date Submariner and 1675 GMT.
While this example with replacement dial and hands may not be for the purist who’s looking for an original gilt dial with patina, this fine example can be worn with peace of mind and enjoyed as a daily or occasional wearer.
