The Daytona has continued its meteoric rise over the past few years. The 6239 is the first and classic Daytona reference # and the model most often seen fitted with the Paul Newman dial. The Daytona model featured an outer tachometer bezel, stainless steel as in this example, and with a black lacquer bezel as in the 6241 model. Actor Paul Newman’s own exotic dial “Paul Newman Daytona which recently sold at auction for nearly $18 million U.S., was a 6239.

Note: the dial on this example is a service replacement dial replaced by Rolex during a service in the watch’s history. The original dial would have looked similar to this example, but without the term “Oyster” on the dial, and with the word “Daytona” in red. The service dial is in pristine condition free of any scratches or defects and with fully intact tritium luminous dots.
