A stunning Rolex SS Daytona ref 16520 so called “Patrizzi” model T serial circa 1996. Featuring a 39mm case with crown guards, and screw down pushers. The outer rings of the sub-dials have turned a creamy hue; not as dark tan or brown as some Patrizzis we have seen, but in our opinion enough color change to qualify as a “light” Patrizzi. The outer rings pop against the glossy black dial. The photos accurately depict the hue of the outer rings, not lighter, and not darker than they appear in person, but we think this example must be seen in person to fully appreciate.
The ref. 16520, or the “Zenith” Daytona, so named for it’s use of the famous Zenith El Primero caliber, was introduced in 1988. This one has a serial number starting with T, dating it to 1996, near the end of the use of tritium as the luminescent agent on the dial. While being a slightly larger diameter than its forefathers, the 16520 also was the first time a Daytona was powered by an automatic movement. A massive leap in the evolution of one of the most iconic watches ever created.
The 16520 features a sapphire crystal for the very first time on a Daytona. The bezel is a stainless steel tachymeter, ushering in nearly 30 years of the same. The Daytona wouldn’t see another black bezel, like on the 6263, until the release of the ref. 116500 in 2016. The bracelet is correct and original 78390 with 503B end pieces. The polished center links work exceptionally well with the black dial.
We are pleased to offer this example as it has been quite a while since we have had a black dial tritium 16520. The perfect blend of vintage and modern. This example includes a Rolex box, service card and record, dated July 12, 2013. Not to be missed!
In excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition and offered with our 1 year warranty of accurate timekeeping and operation.
