A truly magnificent looking Rolex 18K YG Day Date President ref# 18038 circa 1983 with rare and stunning tiger’s eye dial. Featuring a 36mm 18K yellow gold case with sapphire crystal and fluted bezel. With original 18K yellow gold hidden clasp Presidential bracelet. Powered by calibre 3035 single quick set movement with Dutch language day of the week and quick set date. This stunning watch comes with its original Rolex warranty papers dated 1983 as well as its 1983 calendar, Rolex handkerchief, and Rolex leather Presidential box.
All stone dial Rolex Day Dates and Datejusts are extremely desirable and command substantial premiums. We rarely see tiger’s eye dials. While Rolex selects only premium examples of stone material for their dials, we have to say that this tiger’s eye dial is an especially beautiful example with multiple horizontal bands of subtle and contrasting tones. The name tiger’s eye derives from the shimmer and subtle sparkle of the stone surface, much like a cat’s eye illuminated in the dark. Not all tiger’s eye dials enjoy such a rich pattern of color and radiance as the current example.
The dial furthermore is in perfect condition with no cracks, fractures or hairlines. The watch has the correct gold hands lacking luminous center panels.The bracelet shows only light stretch and will fit up to a 7 1/4″ wrist.
Some of you may recognize this watch having been previously sold by Amsterdam Watch Company. We do not have specifics of the original purchaser of the watch, but we note the rarity of a Dutch language day wheel on any Day Date model.
