An amazing looking vintage Rolex Datejust ref 1601 with unique “blue denim” tropical dial. If you have been in our shop in the last year or so, and you asked to see what watch the owner was wearing, it would have been this fabulous looking 1971 Datejust model with an original blue dial that has aged to a color and a texture that is best described as old denim!

It appears that the lacquer coating on the dial has aged and produced a fine crazed effect across the entire dial surface. It is even and uniform throughout with no loss of the blue paint undercoat. Just a terrific looking and certainly unique vintage appearance, and the perfect jeans watch. I have reluctantly decided to part with this beauty having found other watches in my collection which I have been neglecting.

This is the 36mm full size Datejust model from 1971 with 14K WG fluted bezel, case serial # 2.8 million and fitted with its original rolled link Jubilee bracelet with correct early deployant buckle. Powered by Rolex caliber 1570 self winding movement with sweep seconds and non quick set date.
