An asymetrical design Rolex Cellini 18K YG King Midas manual wind dress model ref# 4015 circa 1980s. An unusual and dramatic 28mm Gerald Genta designed asymmetrical case with the winding crown positioned on left side of the case.
The current example features a pronounced ribbed pattern throughout the wide surface of the bezel. When turned on its side, these deep ribs along with the peaked roof design, resemble the columns of the Parthenon, which was the inspiration for the King Midas design.
The case condition of this example is quite sharp, and we think this deeply ribbed bezel pattern is quite compelling. The watch comes with its original excellent condition black crocodile Rolex signed strap and plaque Rolex buckle. The unique design strap was made expressly for this model.
This example features an especially clean and appealing original gloss white dial with black printed Roman numbers and black baton hands. The watch is powered by manual wind caliber 1601. manual wind movement. The movement is in excellent operating condition, recently serviced, and offered with our 1 year warranty of accurate time keeping and operation. A great condition vintage Rolex dress model with a striking and attention grabbing design.
There are a number of variations of the King Midas model. The earliest versions were produced with integral bracelets and were marketed as the heaviest gold watches ever produced at that time. The early versions also include the MIDAS name on the dial, in stylized Greek letters. The later production bracelet and strap models did not bear the MIDAS name on the dial and KING MIDAS engraved on the edge of the case. While the later models lack the MIDAS name, they continue to be referred to as the King Midas model.
