Hamilton 14K YG Flight 1, extremely rare asymmetrical modernist design model circa 1960. One of the most famous and elusive of the models of the Hamilton Electric era of futuristic design cases. The Flight 1 is distinctive for 2 reasons; it is the rare solid gold version of the similar design gold filled case Flight II, and in contrast to the temperamental battery powered Hamilton Electrics, the Flight model is manually wound, and not battery powered, using Hamilton’s 22 jewel manual wind caliber 770 movement. The Flight 1 is further distinguished by the prominent bi color starburst design to the dial not found on the Flight II.
Like the other futuristic Hamilton Electric models, the Flight 1 (and 2) were designed by automotive designer Richard Habib hired by Hamilton Watch Company to produce watch designs “….as revolutionary as their new battery powered technology.” Sadly, the Hamilton electric movements proved to be a challenge to keep operating, while the Flight 1 and Flight II models never suffered such indignity!
We offer an excellent condition example of this rare and eye catching design. With clean and appealing original dial, original Hamilton logo crown, excellent condition case showing light wear and left unpolished as acquired. The movement was just fully serviced and the watch fitted with a stylish contemporary black leather strap.
An exciting acquisition and the first example we have owned in 20 years! A rare, stunning, and wearable mid century model from America’s premier manufacturer of wristwatches.
Your purchase includes one of our signature fine leather watch pouches, ideal for travel and storage, a $65.00 value.
