A classic art deco era 14K YG Hamilton “Sherwood” with interesting provenance. This is a truly classic art deco style Hamilton man’s narrow 21 x 36mm rectangular case with stepped sides. This model was produced from  from 1936 to 1938 and features a matte silver dial with applied 18K YG Breguet style figures and gothic gilt hands. Powered by 19 jewel manual wind calibre 982 movement with subsidiary seconds. In excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition and offered with our 1 year warranty of accurate time keeping and operation.

We are often asked about any history or provenance we may have about watches we offer for sale. We know all vintage watches have a history and a story, but typically we do not know much about it. Well, in this case we were able to do a bit of detective work and learn something about it’s history.

The case back is signed Dr. T Galt Atwood. Our research informs us that there is a T Galt and Lee Dehaven Atwood endowed professor chair in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Arthur A Dugoni School of Dentistry at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco. We have further learned that Dr Atwood was born in 1907 and died in 1977. Dr. Atwood would have been 30 years old in 1937, and we might speculate the watch was a gift from his wife, Lee Dehaven Atwood perhaps on the occasion of that milestone birthday. The presentation does not bear a date, nor the name of the donor. Nevertheless, it is interesting to speculate and to unearth some history on what is undeniably a “doctor’s watch.”

This fine watch has been recently serviced and is offered with our 1 year warranty of accurate time keeping and operation. We have fitted the watch with a contemporary crocodile strap with a Hamilton signed buckle. We can include if you wish the use leather 1950’s era strap that came with the watch when we purchased it.
