A beautiful tropical dial vintage Dodane Type 21 flyback chronograph. A military produced flyback chronograph made specifically for the French Air Force in the 1960’s. Featuring a perfectly sized 38mm stainless steel case, with a 12 hour bezel also in steel, and pump chronograph pushers. Note the hour indications are descending, instead of measuring elapsed time, the bezel is set to indicate hours to destination.
The dial which began black, has aged to a stunning mix of red and brown, a stunning and remarkable “mahogany” appearance. The dial further features two subdials, one for the running seconds, and the other a thirty minute counter for the chronograph. The dial shows its original tritium hour markers, while the original hands having likely been replaced during a scheduled military service.
The caseback shows a specific engraving telling the owner when the watch will need its next service. “FG 14 3 80”. FG for Fin de Garantie, or end of guarantee. While that warranty ended in 1980, this Type 21 has recently been fully serviced by one of our veteran watchmakers and comes with a new 1 year warranty of accurate timekeeping. The watch is worn on a dial matching brown leather NATO style strap, and is also accompanied by one of our beautiful Italian leather watch travel pouches.
