A pleasing example vintage Rolex “Red” Submariner ref# 1680 serial # 2.1 million circa 1971. Featuring a 40mm diameter case with bi-directional bezel, acrylic crystal, and excellent condition original matte black dial with with Red printed SUBMARINER and ivory patina’d luminous indexes and matched lume hands. With open 6 and 9 date wheel, and with aged elapsed time bezel, now turning a bluish tone, with aged pearl, trip lock Oyster crown, and with case back date code for 1969. Fitted with later heavy Oyster 93150 bracelet with 580 end pieces and flip lock diver’s clasp.

The Mark IV dial is in great condition with a very clean, unmarred surface, nicely patina’d textured luminous plots, and still bright red Submariner printing. The dial features red lettering of Submariner and the date disk is original with open 6 and 9 font. The hands have been relumed to closely match the lume of the dial and are free of corrosion often seen on these models. Powered by calibre 1570 chronometer rated self winding movement with sweep seconds and date. The silvered date disk features the correct open 6’s and 9’s.

The “Red” letter Submariner model has been one of the most enduring and popular vintage Rolex sports model for decades. Produced from 1968 until approximately 1973 with the Submariner lettering in red, this model has been one of the most asked for models in our store for years.
