Rolex stainless steel Datejust ref 1603 serial # 1.5 million circa 1967 with original dark chocolate tropical gilt dial. Full size man’s 36mm diameter case with engine turned bezel and acrylic crystal with a richly patina’d dark chocolate tropical dial. The original black gilt print pie pan dial has naturally evolved to a deep and uniform dark chocolate color.

The case shows signs of use consistent with the age of the watch with expected scratches and a few small nicks on the case back. The case and reference #s are clear, and the case is free of corrosion. The case back threads are in good shape and have not been compromised. We have left the case unpolished as acquired.

We often see black dials that have turned a subtle shade of brown requiring examination in direct sunlight to detect the brown tone. This dial is definitely not subtle and requires barely a candle to announce that it is a dark chocolate. The dial has an even lightly crystalized surface which gives the dial a bit of a glimmer. The subtle gilt printing is all fully intact as are the aged all original luminous plots. The hands are original, again with untouched  aged tritium lume. Note the original sweep seconds hand shows some corrosion.

Powered by self winding caliber 1570 movement with sweep seconds which has just been professionally serviced by one of our veteran Rolex trained watchmakers.
