A scarce and exceptionally fine condition variation of the Rolex 18K YG Day Date Oyster Quartz ref 19208 circa 1986. Aptly referred to as the Pyramid model for the prominent pyramid shaped center links of the bracelet, the fixed 18K bezel, as well as the shape of the raised dial indexes. We have owned a number of Oyster Quartz models before, including SS, 2 tones, as well as yellow gold and white gold Day Date models, but never before one of these. This variation, late in production of the Oyster Quartz Day Dates, is really quite a show stopper. The pyramid forms add not just texture, but also a great deal of mass and volume compared to the more familiar smooth bezel and bracelet model. The Oyster Quartz design has gained a great following of late with its larger and more angular design, integral bracelet. While not a Gerald Genta design, it certainly evokes the era of the popular Royal Oak and Nautilus designs.

A fine condition example of this popular 1980’s modernist design model, in little worn condition with tight, not stretched  bracelet. Featuring a 36mm diameter large angular design case with pyramid bezel with beautiful condition original silver gray dial with applied gold pyramid  indexes and original tritium lume dots and hands. The dial is signed Rolex OysterQuartz Day-Date. Powered by Rolex calibre 5055 quartz movement with English language day and with quick set date. With integral 18K YG oyster quartz pyramid bracelet with deployment clasp. Bracelet will comfortably fit a 7 1/4-7 1/2″ wrist.

The Oyster Quartz movement was introduced by Rolex during the “quartz revolution” of the late 1970’s to compete with the burgeoning Japanese market in quartz movements. Rolex produced their own high quality movement, and outfitted the watch in a much more futuristic and modern motif design, larger and more geometric formed Oyster case. Though not a Gerald Genta design, the modernist angular design with integral bracelet reflects a similar aesthetic as the Royal Oak and Nautilus designs.
