Patek Philippe Massive Custom Case Wristwatch 1883 Patek Archives
A striking and massive oversize Patek Philippe wristwatch circa 1883 in a custom made silver case. The massive case is finely executed in sterling silver and measures a whopping 50mm diameter and 60mm lug to lug with a display caseback firmly secured by 6 screws. With original double signed enamel dial in pristine condition without hairlines or cracks. Dial reads with retailer name in Montgomery, Alabama and Patek Philippe. The dial features beautifully stylized black enamel arabic figures, outer 5 minute designations in red, with recessed subsidiary seconds and with elegant blued steel moon style hands and highly stylized sub seconds hand.
The movement caliber is 19″ lever escapement movement stem wind and stem set, having been produced to fit a hunting case movement. Unlike some conversions from open face movements, or from pin set movements, this movement was produced to fit a hunting case movement, so the dial is in the correct orientation with the crown at 3 o'clock, and has the convenience of being stem wind and stem set.
The case is finely executed resembling the robust case design of the Longines Weems and Lindbergh models of the 1940's. The case is sturdy and substantial with heavy extended lugs and massive period onion style crown. The movement number 68.101 is further engraved on the edge of the case. The strap diameter is 28mm. Currently the watch features a brown leather sporty strap with contrasting stitching.
Accompanied by an Archive from Patek Philippe dated 2011 confirming that the movement was produced in 1882 and sold in 1883 and was sold as a movement only (to be cased in house by the Montgomery, Alabama jeweler. Recently serviced and offered with our 1 year warrantee of accurate time keeping and operation.
A terrific looking and unique Patek Philippe wristwatch with an updated case to be enjoyed and treasured.
