An extraordinary example first generation Movado Super Sub Sea diver’s chronograph ref 75-704-541 circa 1960’s. Featuring an oversized and rugged 40.5mm diameter case with wide elapsed time bezel, beefy never polished chamfered  lugs, and heavy screw down case back. Featuring a magnificent black silver gilt print dial with oversized silver registers, richly patina’d original tritium lume indexes, signature serpentine minutes and hours register hands, and first generation original tritium lume hands with shovel shaped hour hand. This example bears the low production number 249 engraved on the inside case back.

We have owned several lovely next generation examples of this model, but never this early first generation model, and it is magnificent looking! This model checks off all the boxes of size, condition, originality, and great looks, and affordability.

The case back features the Movado atomic symbol logo, still sharp engraved “Super Sub Sea” and Guaranteed 200m/660ft.” The lugs retain their original sharp chamfers, the rotating bezel retains its original glossy black finish, and shows minor abrasions throughout that confirm that this watch was actually used for it’s intended purpose and endured nicks and dings during it’s time of use. There is one more prominent “scar” just to the left of the 12 hour triangle. Note that the triangle has lost its luminous.

As for the dial, there is no discoloration or hand drag marks to the 3 oversized registers. The grooved radius lines in each register are sharp and distinct. The dial surface retains its glossy black surface, like our favorite gilt dial sport Rolex models. The aged patina’d lume is all original with no loss of lume to any of the markers or hands. There is no dial edge erosion, and the outer silver gilt print seconds track is fully intact.

While this model is very similar to the famous Zenith A277, the Movado version is powered by the classic M95 caliber movement with the eccentric feature that the bottom pusher starts and stops, while the top pusher resets the chronograph to zero.
