A great looking and scarce Kelek branded stainless steel automatic chronograph circa 1970’s. Featuring an oversized cushion shaped 40 x 43mm case with screw down case back. With great condition original dial with elaborate and striking automotive racing style graphics.

To describe the characteristics of the dial, which we often are inclined to do, is quite an undertaking. The dial features a dark blue back ground with offset lighter blue minutes and constant seconds registers, each register further accented by pie chart inspired alternating color pie shaped segments. With contrasting orange chronograph register and sweep hand and matchstick style, orange tipped hour and minute hands. The dial is further accentuated by a contrasting white hours and minutes track, and completed with a blue tachometer scale printed along the sloped inner bezel ring.

Powered by Buren caliber 11 automatic 2 registers movement with microrotor, with setting functions located at 9 and date at 6 o’clock. With excellent condition case that appears to be unpolished.

As outstanding as the graphic design features of this Kelek, we must acknowledge that this is probably the first Kelek brand watch we have ever owned. A quick google search informed us that Kelek was the supplier and assembler of chronograph modules to Breitling, and were bought by Breitling in the 1990’s. Kelek was a suppliers of watches to the Japanese Imperial Army during WWII, and later marketed Kelek branded watches primarily to the Japanese market.
